Mud Cake

Friday, April 18, 2008
Okay, so since Pam's 21st, I've been craving chocolate mud cake for a week! It's so yum. So rich. So yum. So satisfying. And yes, so yum! (:

I'm not actually a big fan of desserts. And neither do I have a sweet tooth or anything of that sort. But if I do come across something sweet that is extremely yummy, I will want it and I will eat lots of it.

Anyway, I found out where she bought her cake from - Michel's Patisserie!

SO! Today, Jason took me to one of their branches in search of this special cake.. I found it, of course. The guy there even gave me free slice to sample! YAY! Free cake! (:

I bought the chocolate mud log cake in the end. It's about $19.90! Quite an expensive sort of craving but hey, this is a random, ad hoc splurge on dessert so I guess that makes it okay.

I think I must have looked super looney too, starring at the cakes and hovering about, wondering what to buy.

Girl: So what's the special occasion?
Me: Uh, nothing. I just want to buy a cake.
Girl: Oh, so it's just like for someone?
Me: Uh, no. I just want a cake to eat, that's all.
Girl: Oh, so you just feel like cake?
Me: Uh, yes, something like that.
Girl: Oh, I see. So who's going to eat the cake?
Me: Uh, me & my family, I guess?
Girl: Oh, okay.

--- after 10minutes of hovering about ---

Girl: So, have you decided what you want?
Me: Yes, can I have the chocolate log mud cake?
Girl: Yes, sure! So when would you like it?
Me: Uh, what do you mean?
Girl: Uh, like when you would like to order the cake?
Me: OH! I just want a cake now. Can't I just buy it off the shelf?
Girl: OH! Is that what you meant? Yes, sure! Of course! I just thought you wanted to order something.
Me: Oh no no no. I just want to buy a cake now. That's all.

Okay, so the convo didn't exactly go like that.. just something along those lines from what I can remember.. BUT!!!

HONESTLY! Was it that hard to understand? I mean, is it wrong to buy a cake for no reason at all? No birthdays. No celebrations. Nothing! Just buying a cake to eat and be happy about. HAHA! The girl at the counter was actually really sweet and friendly although I think she didn't quite understand why I really wanted a cake.

According to Jason, as I later found out, it actually isn't part of kiwi culture to buy a cake for no particular reason at all. Cake is usually associated with a celebration of some sort of event or whatever.

I mean I've lived here in this country for about 6 years now.. so it's kinda shocking that I didn't know this.

Ah well, I guess it must be the "singaporean" in me that made me do what I did today! (:

Oh, I love this cake!
